Let’s explore the topic of rapid catalyst screening! The effects of various operational parameters on the performance of a catalyst must be understood before incorporating the catalyst into large-scale installations. A traditional catalyst evaluation system is a large furnace with a start-up time of 3 – 5 hours for stabilization. Therefore a catalyst evaluation typically requires a week to several weeks. A technique that can rapidly characterize the performance of a new catalyst is of great interest to scientists and process engineers.
During this webinar, we’ll be highlighting the Tandem µ-Reactor, a powerful system for evaluating a variety of catalysts in a short period of time. Using the Tandem µ-Reactor, products formed from the gaseous contact reactions occurring in the reactor, which contains a catalyst, can be analyzed online using GC/MS. It has two reaction furnaces (1st and 2nd reactor) arranged in tandem, both of which can be independently temperature-controlled. The 1st reactor is used to preheat or pyrolyze polymeric materials, and products formed are fed into the 2nd reactor and travel through the reaction tube to the GC injector.
